Successful social media experiment. One month off all social media: no tweeting, FBing or blogging. Success. Lesson: no one needs you, you don't need anyone. Total independence = total joy. Hahahaha. Are you brave to share?
Today is a special day: Diwali, according to the Hindu calendar.
A day which has traditionally symbolizes the arrival of knowledge and letting go of ignorance.
A day where you can get enlightened if we let go of our past.
Letting go means to accept each and every moment as a divine blessing, acknowledging our intuition as direct instruction from the divine, catching our ego from going into a guilt trip and being conscious and mindful of every thought we have: then everything becomes calm and joyful. Nothing will touch you.
Let there be divine light of knowledge in everyone's life. Those are my prayers for everyone.
This journey of life has only one meaning. Letting go. Letting go of the past, the ego, the physical body, emotional attachment to articles, position and possessions; and, of course, any expectations of the future.
All our fears are rooted on one or more of the above components, frequently in combination too.
Today we will read about the past and how we can let go of the past. Subsequent blogs will attempt to tackle the other components.
When we are stuck in the past we fear that something that has happened in the past is going to happen again. As if the past is stuck to us as a leech and it is literally sucking our blood away. However if the past is just a leech, then we can easily just grab it and throw it away, cast it away where it belongs, under our foot to be trampled and killed.
The past was the past, it does not belong in the present. That is what mindfulness is all about.
Yet, I constantly hear people saying that they can't let go of the past, because, of course, it happened. The emotional attachment to the event, be it the trauma that they faced, an abuse that they felt, listened, watched or heard has, as if, left such an indelible effect on them that it just cannot be effaced.
We can and should apply our body, mind and intellect equipment to let go of the past. Sometimes we need a helping hand that is all.
Some tricks of the trade of letting go are listed as under. Let us utilize each component of our divine equipment
Just Be YourSelf!
If we can see the beauty of unadulterated love in the eyes of a child, the innocent love in the smile above, we are just reflecting the love of the Divine for us. He loves us all the time. We are here to receive the love and share the love. It is so simple.
As we grow on the spiritual path, the one thing which keeps growing through the journey is pure unadulterated love for the Lord, for the Self: and that is what is devotion.
As we start to let go of the ego and listen to our intuition and do what the Lord wishes us to do, our devotion for him grows too.
So, o seeker, do not fret if you have a bad day. Repose in devotion towards the Self. Patience, compassion will make you pass through the obstacle.
Keep the faith and watch devotion grow.
When one starts to learn about Vedanta (the end of the Vedas), one equates the word Maya with money, the material wealth that one possesses. We are informed that this wealth is essential to live in this world but it is not what brings us happiness. We learn that the way to be with the Divine is through acknowledging that Maya is but illusory and our senses maintain this Maya and it is Maya alone that takes us away from the Divine.
As one understands and accepts the knowledge which is within us a bit more, the seeker gains wisdom. Here are some further thoughts for us to reflect on and appreciate the logic of Maya
1. I am likely more than what my senses can appreciate, i.e. if I can appreciate the effect that this world is from, then there should be a single cause (simple law of physics that every effect has a cause)
2. If there is a single cause for what I perceive through my senses then how am I myself perceiving it? this is only logically possible if the cause is within me too?
3. To bring the above two assertions together: I am the Divine (shivoham, I am Shiv)
Just think about this and then rest in peace that you are more than what you perceive. Each and everything that you can perceive is Maya. You and Maya are infinite. Each and every part of this creation has been made by the divine and you are divine with infinite powers to make your own Maya daily through your thoughts, actions and beliefs.
More we accept that we are the divine and offer all our thoughts, actions and beliefs back to the divine, the stranglehold that Maya maintains on us just loosens and our true nature of Truthfulness-Consciousness-Bliss starts to pervade.
Ever felt confused and rather disheartened that people do not respond to you, the way you want them to. I have. Indeed we want people to make us feel happy. Wishing that what we do will somehow make them feel happy and make them love us for what we think we are. But in our attempt to please we do so many "charades" of trying to make us and them happy!
Now imagine that we were able to let go of our preconceptions, motives (ulterior) and expectations and truly just let go of completely of everything that our mind makes us believe and just be our selves. Allowing pure unadulterated genuine love for them. No expectation what so ever. Even if they hurt us, we love them more. Because love is the ONLY natural thing that this world is made of.
Love is the basis of life. Full stop. There is no spiritual practice that does not want you to love each other. Not just your family: but every aspect of this creation.
But first love needs to start from home. Love your dearest ones completely and then the whole world loves you back. Feel the love coming back to you.
I was really struck by the above message this morning. Imagine someone who is lost and he has only 90 minutes to change everything: pretty well depicted in "The angriest man in Brooklyn", available now on Netflix. Pretty cool. Hope you get the same message.
Happy watching and Loving
Remember, Be YourSelf!
Have you noticed on some days that you wish to be completely aloof from everyone and everything. It is not as if you are depressed or down or sad but everything appears a bit tasteless. You just want to be one with something or someone to give you ultimate peace. You yearn for quietude. Your mind is still. However you are in a mode of extreme yearning!
That is detachment.
Your soul or the Self wants to be with the Supreme Self. That is it.
It realizes that there are too many things happening around us which pull us in various directions and tend to destabilize us. Through detachment the Supreme Self is reminding us that what we see, feel and hear is illusory. Our potential is infinitude.
That yearning of detachment is acceptance of the final truth: the infinitude which the Self wants to be with.
Let us celebrate detachment and be with the Self through meditation, service and knowledge
The more we want something, and if we know it is good for friends, family,
community and society; then the Self has no option but to oblige. Your intuition will
become stronger and actions nobler through the process. Uncertainty, fear,
apprehension: they just disappear as soon as we have noble thoughts for humanity.
